This privacy policy sets out how NHS Digital uses and protects any information that you give us when you use the IT Skills Pathway services.
NHS Digital is committed to ensuring that your privacy is protected. Should we ask you to provide certain information by which you can be identified when using this website, then you can be assured that it will only be used in accordance with this privacy notice.

What we collect
If you are a learner, we may collect the following personal information:
- name
- email address
- IT Skills Pathway centre name
- Course progress information, including:
- Date started / accessed / completed
- Time spent
- Tutorials started / completed
- Diagnostic assessment scores
- Post learning assessment scores
In addition, your IT Skills Pathway centre may choose to collect any three of the following pieces of information, to enable them to effectively manage your learning:
- Assignment / employee number
- Base / office / place of work
- Contact telephone number
- Department / team
- Division / directorate / service
- Group
- Job title
- Manager
- Organisation / company
- Organisation identifier (e.g. ODS Code)
- Organisation type
- Programme of study / course
- Region
- Role type
- Sector
- Team
- Work address
We may also collect evaluation data. This is always stored and processed anonymously.
What we do with the information we gather
We require this information to understand your needs and provide you with a better service, and in particular for the following reasons:
- Internal record keeping.
- Providing you with a service.
- Service usage reporting (not including personal data) to demonstrate business benefit and improve our products and services.
- You may receive automated e-mails as part of the service, for example when requesting a password reset or delegate ID reminder or inviting you to evaluate learning materials and / or access your completion certificates.
- We will not use your information to contact you for marketing or market research purposes.
- We may use the information to customise the website according to your preferences.
Retention of Data
Data is retained for statistical purposes. (Deleting a learner record also deletes the learning undertaken and thus impacts of learning reports). Deleting of an individual’s records can be undertaken at the request of an organisation or of a learner.
Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. To prevent unauthorised access or disclosure, we have put in place suitable physical, electronic and managerial procedures to safeguard and secure the information we collect online.
How we use cookies

Cookies allow web applications to respond to you as an individual. Who has access to your data
NHS Digital staff, as data controllers, store and have access to your data to provide the IT Skills Pathway service to you.
If you are a learner, your data is also made available to staff at the IT Skills Pathway centre under which you are registered. They are bound to terms and conditions of use which restrict them to using this data in accordance with data protection principles for the purpose of delivering and tracking training.
Access for IT Skills Pathway centre staff is controlled by NHS Digital and protected by secure login.
Your rights regarding your personal information
We will not sell, distribute or lease your personal information to third parties unless we are required by law to do so.
You may request details of personal information which we hold about you under the Data Protection Act 1998. If you would like a copy of the information held on you please contact your IT Skills Pathway centre in the first instance or it.skills@nhs.net if they are unable to provide it satisfactorily.
If you believe that any information we are holding on you is incorrect or incomplete, please ask your IT Skills Pathway centre to correct it as soon as possible, if they unable to, please email us at the above address. We will promptly correct any information found to be incorrect.
If you would like your personal data removing, please request this through your IT Skills Pathway centre.
Where means exist to make your data portable, we will endeavour to do so.
Your right to withdraw consent
Failure to consent to us storing your data would prevent the recording of training progress and provision of certification as well as preventing the monitoring and reporting of online training progress by centre and NHS Digital staff.
You will be able to indicate that you wish to withdraw consent for us to process your personal data. This will result in the removal of your personal data, anonymisation of progress data and prevent further access to the IT Skills Pathway service.
Your right to complain
If you wish to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority about how we have managed your data then the relevant body to contact is the Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, SK9 5AF
