Joining a Supervision Session (Beta)
If your activity supervisor schedules a supervision session and invites you to attend it, it will appear as a planned activity in your development log.
A button will appear allowing you to join the supervision session. The appearance of this button will change depending upon the digital meeting technology used to schedule the session.
If your supervision session has been scheduled using NHSmail Skype for Business, this can be joined in the browser direct from the platform or using the Skype for Business application.
If another digital meeting technology has been used, a link may be available to join the meeting in that platform.
If you have the Skype for Business mobile app installed, your scheduled sessions will also be visible (and joinable) in the upcoming meetings view.
Once you have attended a supervision session and your supervisor has recorded your attendance, the session will move to the completed section of your development log.
Joining a Skype for Business Supervision Session
Note: To join a supervision session, you will need to be using a device with audio and a microphone (or suitable headset). To join a video call, you will need to be using a laptop, smartphone or tablet with built-in camera or a PC with a webcam.
When your supervisor schedules a session, you will receive an email calendar invite containing links to join it in the web browser or the Skype for Business app.
The same links are available from the drop down list in the planned session interface:
Join in Web Broswer
You will be prompted to login to Skype for Business using your NHSmail login. This will be your @nhs.net email address (this should be populated for you) and the password that you use to access your emails.
- Enter your password
- Optionally choose Remember me
- Click Join Supervision Session.
TIP: Choosing Remember me? will save your login credentials for 90 days to prevent you having to retype them each time you join a session (the login form will be by-passed when you try to join supervision sessions for the next 90 days).
You will join the Skype for Business meeting that has been arranged to deliver your supervision session.
You will be able to see and download and files your supervisor has uploaded against the session (these will also be available in your Development Log in the learning menu afterwards)
Note: Joining a Skype for Business session in a web browser works best in the Microsoft Edge web browser. In Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers it will work only if the Skype for Business plugin is installed. In other browsers, including Chrome, you will not be able to connect to the meeting. Provided that you are using Microsoft Edge, joining in a web browser is not dependent upon any other software being installed.
Join in Skype for Business app
Choosing to Join in Skype for Business app will attempt to connect you to the scheduled supervision session in the Skype for Business app installed on your device.
Provided that you have the app installed, this is likely to be the most reliable way of connecting to your supervision session.
