E-learning Content Guidelines
Publishing e-learning content for use in the IT Skills Pathway CMS
In theory, any software package that produces SCORM 1.2 compliant learning content can be uploaded to the DLS Content Management System.
The following considerations should help you to produce content that works well in the system.
Content Development Considerations
Don’t create a menu for your e-learning content in the e-learning authoring tool. The DLS CMS menu system should be utilised instead.
Use the DLS earning menu structure to structure your content:
- Course – Sections – Tutorials
- Each course can have as many (or few) sections as needed.
- Each tutorial can have one or more objectives.
- Create your assessments as separate files.
- Each section can have a diagnostic (pre-learning) and post learning assessment.
- Consider the size of your e-learning content. Some users may have smaller / lower resolution screens. Where possible, it is best to make sure your content works well on a 1024 x 768 monitor.
NOTE: Only diagnostic assessments created in Content Creator will inform or customise a learning path. This feature is not available when using third-party e-learning authoring packages.
Content Publishing Settings
- Publish your content for LMS as a SCORM 1.2 package.
- If the option is available, publish directly to a zip.
- Set the completion status to “passed”, “completed” or “complete” (if the option is presented).
- Choose player settings that allow the content to be resized to the browser window (if available).
- Choose the option to close the learning content when complete (if available).
