Content creator is designed to let you create interactive web-based learning materials and assessments. To get full use of the Content Creator, you will need additional tools in your locker:
Screen Grabber
Whilst it is possible to capture screen images using the Print Screen key, it can be difficult to capture elements of the window like buttons, rollovers etc.
A specialist screen grabbing tool can make this job easier.
Several are available, including the popular Snagit. ScreenPresso has similar features, has a "free" version and integrates well with Content Creator, especially if you set it's output folder to be the image folder of your project (see Refresh the Image Gallery).
Video Grabber
To include "demo" screens in your e-learning, where a process is demonstrated to the user, you will need a tool to capture screen activity as a video. The tool will need to include mp4 output (preferably at the capture resolution).
Many tools are available that will let you do this including:
Window sizing application
Sizer is a very small application with a very specific purpose: it allows you to resize a window to a given size. When creating projects in Content Creator, you will specify a project size (default = 1024 X 768) any background screens captured should match this size (a warning will appear if they don't - see Pasting the Clipboard as a Background). Using Sizer, you can set the window for the application that you are creating learning content for to the precise size required using a context menu command.
Image Editor
An image editing application is needed to make adjustments to screen background and object images. No image editor is included in the Content Creator installer but several free to use image editing applications are available, including:
As well as many, many commercial offerings.
Microsoft Paint (which is usually installed with Windows) could also be used if no other image editor is available. It is extremely limited though.
