NHS Pathways have been working with the Digital Learning Solutions team to host their elearning content since October 2015. When the team introduced the Mobile Directory of Service (DoS) elearning, they wanted to find a way to maximise the number of learners that would access the new course.

Background

NHS Pathways have been working with the Digital Learning Solutions team to host their elearning content since October 2015. They host their courses on a central site where learners can access their content directly or do so via the IT Skills Pathway network of centres across the country. At the time of writing 1634 users have accessed 1916 courses.

The main benefits of using the Digital Learning Solutions platform to host the learning content are:
  • Direct, tailored support from an internal team
  • Instant reporting on uptake and learner progress
  • Same content is available to learners via a range of different methods (rather than taking a ‘one size fits all’ approach)
  • Course changes can be uploaded instantly to ensure learners have the most recent content to access
  • Maximises availability of content to learners in Health and Social Care
  • Free hosting and technical support
NHS Pathways currently develop their content using Adobe Captivate which is then hosted on the Digital Learning Solutions tracking system.

What was needed?

When the team introduced the Mobile Directory of Service (DoS) elearning, they wanted to find a way to maximise the number of learners that would access the course. The target audience for this learning were emergency care services personnel such as Paramedics in Ambulance Services.

What are the benefits from an NHS Digital Perspective?

For NHS Pathways the provision of the Mobile Directory training couldn’t have been simpler. We were able to quickly and easily publish the training to the system allowing remote trainees to access the materials whenever they needed to. Any support issues were picked up quickly by the Digital Learning Solutions team meaning that the workload on NHS Pathways was reduced massively. After this proof of concept we are using a similar technique to publish various other training packages around the cou

What are the benefits from an NHS organisation perspective?

This piece of work reduced the need for additional delegate accounts to be created on a separate IT Skills Pathway system resulting in reduced administration, support and training costs and time. It streamlined the whole process allowing access to a single IT Skills Pathway Centre to complete essential training required by their job role.

What are the benefits from a Learner perspective?

Rather than having to log in to two separate places, I was able to access my IT training alongside my clinical training from the same place.
